Sweetbriar Mansion is an 18th–century Federal-style mansion in Fairmount Park. Samuel Breck, a businessman and philanthropist, built Sweetbriar in 1797 in a scenic location overlooking the Schuylkill River.

Today Sweetbriar is a house museum open to the public for tours in the spring, summer and fall months. We welcome your visit.

Samuel Breck Diary

Read diary entries from Samuel Breck, the original owner who had Sweetbriar built in 1797. Breck kept diary entries throughout most of his adult life.

Samuel Breck knew many leaders of the time, including General Lafayette and Joseph Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon.

Samuel Breck also wrote about many ordinary events, such as attending a theatrical melodrama and adjudging an arbitration for an accident case.
